Foliage Report #11

October 10, 2001
The 2001 foliage season has reached its peak thoughout Minnesota and in much of northern Wisconsin and the upper penninsula of Michigan. Central sections of Wisconsin, the balance of the UP of Michigan, and northern sections of the lower peninsula of Michigan are reporting high color change. All other areas in the region are still in the low to moderate range. Low color however, is isolated to southeastern Ohio.

As peak conditions arrive, so to do higher amounts of leaf drop. This is due to the fact that the changed leaves, which no longer receive nutrients from the tree, eventually fall to the ground. A high degree of leaf drop is now being reported in much of northern Minnesota. The remainder of the region is still reporting low to moderate leaf drop.

This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released Saturday, October 13, 2001.
