As the summer draws to a close, and as the days get shorter, the eagerly
anticipated fall foliage season begins. The spring and summer of 2001
featured mostly normal precipitation in the upper Midwest, which should
help to provide a spectacular foliage season. This year marks the first
year of coverage for the states of Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
The Foliage Network looks forward to expanding its coverage to provide
even more information for travelers and leaf-peepers. At this early stage,
the western sections of the region are reporting very low color. No changes
have been observed in much of Michigan and Ohio.
Leaf drop is very low to non-existent,
which is to be expected so early in the season. This information was provided
by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released
Saturday, September 8, 2001.
