Nearly the entire upper Midwest is now reporting very low color change.
The only area not reporting any change is extreme southern Ohio. Swamp
maple, dogwood, and burning bush are accounting for most of the early
color. These trees and bushes are usually the first to show color. Some
other color can be seen on diseased or distressed trees. The bulk of the
foliage change is yet to come.
Leaf drop is very low to non-existent
in much of the region as is expected so early into the foliage season.
This information was provided
by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released
Wednesday, September 19, 2001.
