October 16, 2002 Peak has come and gone for much of northern Minnesota. Much of the southern portion of the state is still enjoying the peak and offering many great viewing opportunities. Other areas reporting peak are northern Wisconsin and the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The remainder of Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan have high color (61 to 80 percent). Most of the L.P. of Michigan and the state of Ohio have yet to reach high levels of color. Leaf drop in the region has increased, especially where peak and high color is found. While most locations are reporting low to moderate color, high leaf drop has been reported mostly in northern Minnesota, northern and western Wisconsin and the extreme western U.P. of Michigan.
