October 1 , 2003 The trees in Minnesota continue to change as much of the state is now in the moderate (31 to 60 percent) to high (61 to 80 percent) range. In particular, the northern half of Minnesota is displaying the most color. Some of the parks in Minnesota showing great color include Buffalo River State Park near Glyndon, Charles A. Lindbergh State Park near Little Falls, Hayes Lake State Park in Roseau, Bear Head Lake State Park in Ely, and Savanna Portage State Park near McGregor. Elsewhere in the region, Wisconsin is getting into the act with a good section of northern Wisconsin crossing into the moderate color range. Some of the areas in Wisconsin with the most color include Wausau, Kewaunee, Fort Atkinson, Birchwood, Hazel Green and Stone Lake. Meanwhile, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, foliage color is approaching moderate levels. The foliage change in much of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and the State of Ohio is in the 10 to 30 percent range. Most of the leaf drop in the region (which is low to very low) is mostly a result of the dry summer. It's not too late to find a place to stay while traveling this fall! Check out our Places to Stay and Foliage Spotters sections to find great accommodations! This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released on Saturday, October 4, 2003.
