Foliage Report #10

October 4 , 2003

If you're looking for foliage in Minnesota, it is hard to miss right now. Only in extreme southeast Minnesota will you find the foliage change less than moderate. In all of northern Minnesota, the foliage change is high to peak. In Wisconsin, the northern part of the state is mostly in the moderate color range (31 to 60 percent), with a small pocket of high color near the center of the state. Most of southern Wisconsin remains below 30 percent change.

Elsewhere in the region, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, has experienced a progression in color change, especially in the eastern and western areas. Most of the color change in these two sections is moderate with high color in the northern reaches of the western UP. In the Lower Peninsula, much of the northern half is in the moderate color range, while in the southern half, color change remains low (below 30%). Finally, In Ohio, color change is mostly low.

Leaf drop in northern Minnesota is now moderate, as the foliage enters the peak category. Leaf drop is also moderate in western Wisconsin.
