Much of the region has been quite dry as of late. A nice steady rain would really help out at this stage of the foliage season to give the leaves a little more health before the colors really start popping. Currently in the region, there is a good mix of little/no change (0%-10% change) and low change (11%-30% change). Much of the color currently being reported is from basswoods, elms, aspen, ash and cottonwoods. All of these varieties feature yellow foliage. There is also some red sprinkled in from sumac, dogwoods and swamp maple. The maples, most famous for foliage, are still waiting to get started.
Leaf drop is mostly very low, except for some of the drier areas, where some of the leaves have dried and fallen. However, at this early stage in the foliage season, leaf drop is not a concern.
