Foliage Report #5

September 22, 2007

Recent frosts have moved northern Minnesota into the moderate color (31% - 60% change) range. Low color (11% - 30% change) can be found in central and much of southern Minnesota, the northern two-thirds of Minnesota, Michigan's Upper Peninsula and western Lower Peninsula and portions of northeastern Ohio. Elsewhere, there is still little to no change.

Leaf drop is very low in most spots with the exception of northern Minnesota, the northern Upper Peninsula of Michigan and portions of northwest Wisconsin. Recent windy conditions there have let to a slight increase in leaf drop.

Tomorrow marks the official start of autumn. The autumnal equinox is what determines this. The equinox means that there will be an equal amount of day and night.
