1999 Foliage Report #20

November 6, 1999
This is the final foliage report for the 1999 season. Most of the Northeast has past peak foliage conditions. The only areas not reporting past peak are southeastern Massachusetts, southern Rhode Island, portions of southwestern Connecticut, extreme lower Hudson Valley and Long Island in New York, most of New Jersey, and western Pennsylvania, most of which are reporting peak conditions. In extreme southern New Jersey, high color is still being observed.

This foliage season brought with it many beautiful colors and a great deal of surprises. Many had forecasted an early and short lived foliage season due to drought conditions experienced during the Spring and Summer in much of the Northeast. However, abundant rainfall and mild temperatures in September helped to normalize the foliage season. In fact, the color change was late in many areas and lasted much longer than usual. We hope that you all enjoyed this vibrant and colorful time of year!
