2000 Foliage Report #12

October 11, 2000
Peak foliage conditions have spread into much of northern New England and northern New York. The exceptions being the Lake Champlain region between New York and Vermont and the St. Lawrence Seaway along northeastern New York. Throughout the remainder of the northeast, moderate and high color change dominates. The only areas still reporting low color are extreme southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and coastal sections of southern Connecticut.

Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and frost in some northern sections of the Northeast has led to an increase in leaf drop. Aside from the cold temperatures and frozen precipitation, windy conditions have also led to more leaf drop. More than half of the Northeast is now reporting moderate leaf drop (30% - 60%). The only area reporting high leaf drop is confined to extreme northern Maine. Watch for upcoming foliage reports from The Foliage Network to keep up with autumn's spectacular colors!
