2000 Foliage Report #4

September 13, 2000
As the middle of September approaches, the leaves continue to slowly change. All areas, except for southern New Jersey, are now reporting some degree of color change. The fading of the summer greens is now beginning to speed up, and soon, the bright and vibrant autumn colors will appear in earnest. Portions of northern Maine, northern New Hampshire, western Massachusetts, western New York, eastern Connecticut, and northeastern Pennsylvania are now reporting low color (11%-30%). These areas are primarily in higher elevations or along bodies of water.

Leaf drop has increased slightly in some areas of the Northeast, but is not yet a factor for leaf peeping. Watch for upcoming foliage reports from The Foliage Network to keep up with autumn's spectacular colors!
