September 30, 2000 Cooler temperatures and the decrease of daylight have led to an increase in autumn colors throughout northern New York and northern New England. For the first time this season, high color (60% - 80% change) is now being reported in the mountains of northwestern Maine, northern New Hampshire, northeastern Vermont, and the Adirondack mountain region in northern New York. The remainder of northern New York and northern New England is reporting mostly moderate color. Other areas reporting moderate coloration include the Catskill mountains in southeastern New York, portions of the Finger Lakes region in western New York, the Pocono mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania, and sections of western Pennsylvania. Cooler temperatures expected this weekend should promote even more coloration in much of the Northeast. Moderate leaf drop has been observed in northern Maine. All other areas in the Northeast are still reporting low leaf drop, very good for leaf viewing. Watch for upcoming foliage reports from The Foliage Network to keep up with autumn's spectacular colors!
