Foliage Report #13

October 17, 2001
A majority of the Northeast is now at peak foliage color, providing for ideal viewing. In the northern sections of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, the foliage is now past peak. Similar reports are coming in from the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains of New York. Southern New England, the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island in New York, most of New Jersey, and a majority of southern Pennsylvania remain in the low to high color range. Low color, however, is isolated to the southern coast of Connecticut and extreme southern New Jersey.

Windy conditions have led to an increase in the amount of leaf drop. A large area of northern New England is reporting high amounts of leaf drop. Other areas experiencing high leaf drop include portions of northern New York, the southern tier of New York, and spotty areas in western Pennsylvania. In sections of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and northern New Hampshire, the trees have nearly lost all their leaves. The southern coast of New England and southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania continue to report low leaf drop. All other areas are reporting moderate leaf drop.

This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released Saturday, October 20, 2001.
