Foliage Report #14

October 20, 2001
The foliage season continues to progress, with peak conditions gradually pushing to the south. Much of northern New England and the mountains of New York are now past peak. Portions of the southern tier of New York have also past peak. The only areas not reporting either peak or past peak conditions include southeastern New Hampshire, the eastern half of Massachusetts, northeastern and coastal Connecticut, select locations in Rhode Island, downstate New York, isolated areas in the southern tier of New York, much of New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania. Foliage conditions in these areas remain moderate to high.

Leaf drop throughout the Northeast is primarily in the moderate to high range. The northwestern mountains of Maine, higher elevations of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and the Catskill Mountains in New York are reporting nearly complete to complete leaf drop. Trees in the coastal sections of southern New England, southern New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania are holding on to their leaves, as the amount of leaf drop remains low.
