Foliage Report #16

October 27, 2001
A few of The Foliage Network spotters summed up the conditions in much of the Northeast, "The show is over". A majority of the region is now past peak. Much of southern New England, portions of western and southeastern New York, most of New Jersey, and a large area of Pennsylvania are holding on with high to peak foliage conditions. Although many of the trees have fully changed color, there are quite a few (more than normal) that are still entirely green. It is rather strange observing so many bare trees while others have a totally green canopy remaining.

Very windy conditions during the past two weeks have brought down many of the leaves. Much of the inland regions of the Northeast are now reporting nearly complete leaf drop. The mountainous areas in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York have lost all their leaves (except for some of the oaks which may hold on to their leaves for another couple of weeks). Much of coastal and southern New England, central and eastern Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley and downstate New York, and most of New Jersey is reporting moderate to high leaf drop.

This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released Wednesday, October 31, 2001.
