All of a sudden, the foliage season is in full gear in parts of the Northeast.
It seems as though the trees looked at the calendar and decided it was
time to speed up their change. This is most obvious in northern New England
and in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains of New York where moderate,
high, and the first peak conditions of the season have been reported.
Portions of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont are the first to report peak
conditions, which is a bit ahead of last year's foliage season. Much of
the northern sections of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are reporting
moderate and high color, as are the mountains of New York State. The remainder
of the Northeast is continuing to show low to very low change.
The first reports of moderate
leaf drop are coming in from isolated sections of the Adirondack Mountains
in New York, and portions of central Vermont. Elsewhere, leaf drop continues
to be very low to low.
