Foliage Report #4

September 14, 2002

Nearly the entire Northeast is now reporting some degree of color. While most of the reports are of very low color change, some areas are seeing slightly more color. These areas include the crown of Maine, portions of the Maine mountains in the western part of the state, some of the higher elevations of central Vermont, and the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York State.

Leaf drop continues to be a non-factor. I have received some feedback stating that some areas are experiencing 30%-50% leaf drop. While I doubt this is the case for entire areas, some of the distressed trees may very well have dropped a fair amount of leaves. The Foliage Network reports are averages of all the trees, not just those in distress.
