Labor Day has passed, the days and nights are getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. Yes, the summer of 2003 is giving way to the beautiful days of autumn. September is here and The Foliage Network is kicking into high gear to once again provide the best foliage information available. Welcome to the 2003 fall foliage season! With most trees nearly 100% green, there is not much to talk about with respect to the foliage...yet.

We can, however, take a quick look ahead to what the trees have in store for us this fall. The spring and summer provided a surplus of precipitation in much of the Northeast. The exceptions being much of Maine and portions of New Hampshire where a slight deficit occurred. This is quite different from last year, where drought conditions plagued much of the region. Throughout the Northeast, the tree canopies are healthy and lush, a very good sign for the fall foliage. If the rains subside and conform to normals for this time of year, the foliage show of 2003 could be one the best in some years.
