Foliage Reports Archive - 2003 Northeast United States |
|
September 24, 2003 Color change continues to spread across northern New England and in the higher elevations of New York and Pennsylvania. Moderate color change (31 to 60 percent) can be found in extreme northern Maine, the Great North Woods Region of New Hampshire and portions of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. In other parts of the Northeast, low color (11 to 30 percent) is gradually taking over with Fall's official arrival. Hurricane
Isabel's effect on the foliage season appears to be minimal. While much
of the Northeast did experience strong winds, most of the leaves were
unaffected and are still on the trees. Some of the early color, however,
has fallen from some of the trees due to the high winds. Leaf drop is minimal throughout the Northeast which is indeed great news. If you have not yet made reservations for your leaf-peeping trip(s), now is the time! Check out our Places to Stay and Foliage Spotters sections to find great accommodations! This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released on Saturday, September 27, 2003.
