Foliage Report #13

October 17, 2001
Since the last report, the foliage in the Southeast has changed rather dramatically. Areas of high color have spread, and the first reports of peak conditions have been received. Peak conditions are being reported in eastern West Virginia and the higher elevations in western Maryland. High color change can be found throughout the Appalachian Chain, as the mountains provide scenic and colorful vistas. Other areas in the Southeast are reporting low to moderate color change.

Leaf drop is essentially split between low and moderate levels. The mountainous regions, which are more advanced in color change, are reporting moderate leaf drop. Higher elevations in West Virginia have observed high amounts of leaf drop.

This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released Saturday, October 20, 2001.
