Foliage Report #12

October 12, 2002

The first reports of high color have arrived in the region! The higher elevations of the mountains in western Maryland have reached high color (61 to 80 percent) change. Moderate color continues in the mountains in western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and sections of western Virginia. The remaining areas in the region are reporting either low or very low color.

Leaf drop in most of the region is primarily low, with some areas having very low drop and some moderate leaf drop. The moderate levels are found in the higher elevations where color change is in the moderate to high range. There are still plenty of leaves to enjoy!
