October 12, 2003 Moderate (31 to 60 percent) color continues to spread in the mountains of western Maryland, much of West Virginia and portions of west-central Virginia. Moderate color is also showing up in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina in the Great Smoky Mountains. The first reports of high color (61 to 80 percent) have arrived from the mountains of West Virginia. If you have not yet made your leaf-peeping travel plans, now is the time! Check out our Places to Stay and Foliage Spotters sections to find great accommodations! This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network.
