Foliage Report #3

September 8, 2004

The remnants of Hurricane Frances, which battered the state of Florida, are bringing soaking rains, strong to severe (even tornadic) thunderstorms and windy conditions to the area. Fortunately, this is all occurring very early in the foliage season when the leaves are still able to take most of the punishment without a high degree of leaf drop.

In portions of the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, low color (11% - 30%) has been reported. Soon, watch for the lush green leaves slowly begin to lose their green pigment. Once that happens, you know the fall colors aren't far behind!
