October 26, 2005
The month of October has been mostly rainy and cloudy in the region, two characteristics that are not ideal for bright colorful fall foliage. The strange fall weather continued last weekend with snow falling in parts of West Virginia. More recently, the remnants of Hurricane Wilma moved up the East Coast bringing yet more rain and some heavy winds to much of the region.
The foliage change is now high (61% - 80% change) along much of the Appalachian Mountain Chain with some areas in eastern West Virginia reaching peak. Elsewhere in the region, foliage color is moderate (31% - 60% change).
Leaf drop is low in much of the region with moderate to high leaf drop in areas with high to peak color change.
