Hershey/Gettysburg/Dutch Country

The Hershey/Dutch Country Region is brimming with things to see and do. You will see the Amish and Mennonites following the traditions of past generations. Visit the rich history of Gettysburg, including the Gettysburg Battlefield. Visit the state capital of Harrisburg with its many things to do. Don't forget Hershey, with its world famous Hershey Park, 72 holes of golf and the mounds of rich, milk chocolate! In Reading, the "Outlet Capital of the World", visit over 300 factory outlets. If that does not satisfy your shopping thirst, head over to Lancaster for another 180 outlets. Looking for antiques? Check out Adamstown and their antique dealers by the hundreds! Covered Bridges

There are 28 covered bridges in the region. Nine are described below.

  • Adairs Covered Bridge in Kistler. Built in 1864. Spans Sherman's Creek.
  • Aline Covered Bridge in Meiserville. Built in 1884 and spans Sherman's Creek.
  • Baumgardner's Covered Bridge in Willow Street. Built in 1860. Spans Pequea Creek.
  • Bistline Covered Bridge in Blain. Built in 1871. Crosses Sherman's Creek.
  • Butcher's Mill Covered Bridge in Denver, PA. Built in 1892. Crosses Cocalico Creek.
  • Colemanville Covered Bridge in Pequea. Built in 1856. Spans Pequea Creek.
  • Dreibelbis Station Covered Bridge in Kutztown. Crosses Maiden Creek.
  • Martin's Mill Bridge in Greencastle. Reconstructed in 1972.

Museums
  • Hershey Museum in Hershey - Milton Hershey built a town on chocolate. Follow company history and tour Mr. Hershey's personal Native American and PA Dutch collections.
  • Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg - The Railroad Museum traces the development of railroads and rail transportation in PA.
  • State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg - Official museum of the Commonwealth, features historical exhibits, arts, planetarium.
  • The Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia - Museum illustrates timekeeping history.

  • Caledonia State Park in Fayetteville - Picnicking, fishing, golf course, camping and cabins.
  • Fowler's Hollow State Park in Newville - Picnicking, hiking and fishing.
  • Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry - 340 acre lake, fishing, hiking, picnicking and campground.
  • Hershey Gardens in Hershey - Historic award-winning rose display, outdoor butterfly house, surrounded by 23-acre mature botanical gardens.

  • Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton - 2,400-acre nature preserve, fall hawkwatch, scenic vistas, hiking trails, visitor center.
  • Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Halifax - Wild and exotic animals, safari tours, reptiles, petting zoo and fishing.
