Southern
Windsor County is rich in history with the town of Windsor noted
as the "Birthplace of Vermont". The region is also
rich in all-season outdoor activities. There are two major ski
areas--Okemo and Ascutney to keep all snow lovers happy. For
the rest of the year there are lakes and rivers for boating,
sailing, swimming,and fishing. Hiking and biking trails through
the forests and mountainsides. Museums, antique shopping, arts
and crafts, historic sites, maple sugaring, and, of course,
the spectacular autumn foliage no matter where you are.

Covered Bridges
Bests covered
bridge is located in West Windsor, VT (Windsor County). This
bridge, built in 1890, spans Mill Brook, south of Route 44,
west of Churchill Road.
Bowers
or Brownsville covered bridge is located in West Windsor, VT
(Windsor County). Build date unknown. Spans Mill Brook off Route
44.
Quechee
covered bridge is located in Hartford, VT (Windsor County).
Built in 1970. Spans Ottauquechee River. Serves as principal
entry into the village from Route 4.
Martins
Mill or Martinsville covered bridge is located in Hartland,
VT (Windsor County). This bridge, built in 1881, spans Lull's
Brook on Martinsville Road off US Route 5.
Willard
covered bridge is located in Hartland, VT (Windsor County).
Construction date unknown. Spans Ottauquechee River, east of
Route 5.
Baltimore
covered bridge is located in Springfield, VT (Windsor County).
This bridge, built in 1870, spans an unnamed brook next to the
Eureka Schoolhouse on Route 106.
Downers
covered bridge is located in Weathersfield, VT (Windsor County).
Bridge was built c. 1840 and restored 1975-76. Spans Black River
west of junction of Route 106 and Route 131.
Titcomb
covered bridge is located in Weathersfield, VT (Windsor County).
Built in 1880 and located off Route 106.
Salmond
covered bridge is located in Weathersfield, VT (Windsor County).
This bridge, built in 1875, and located on Henry Guild Road,
just off Route 131.
Middle
covered bridge is located in Woodstock, VT (Windsor County).
Built in 1969, the bridge spans Ottauquechee River on Mountain
Avenue, opposite the Village Green.
Lincoln
covered bridge is located in Woodstock, VT (Windsor County).
Built in 1865. Spans the Ottauquechee River, approximately 3
miles west of Woodstock Village, adjacent to Route 4.
Taftsville
covered bridge is located in Woodstock, VT (Windsor County).
This bridge, built in 1836, spans the Ottauquechee River adjacent
to Route 4.
Historic Sites
Eureka
Schoolhouse in East Springfield; a historic site where for more
than 100 years local children went to school. One of Vermont's
oldest public buildings, this one-room schoolhouse exhibits
the school day of the past with books and various educational
materials.
Old Constitution
House in Windsor; where delegates from the newly independent
Republic of Vermont gathered to write the constitution. This
document served for 14 years when in 1791 Vermont joined the
Union as the 14th state. Exhibit depicting the creation of the
constitution.
Museums

American
Precision Museum in Windsor; a National Historic Landmark,
the largest collection of historic precision machine tools
in America is housed here. Hand and machine tools, measuring
tools, gun making tools and guns, typewriters, and engines.
Outdoor Activities

Mt.
Ascutney Ski Area in Brownsville; winter activities for
the entire family to enjoy, whether you are a novice or expert
on the slopes.

Okemo
Mountain Ski Area in Ludlow; one of the East's best for
Nordic downhill and cross-country skiing. Other snow activities
for the entire family to enjoy the outdoors.
